The TBE published a Guidance on the installation of ‘on-roof’ PV panels above clay tile roofs document, which is intended to provide support for roofers and PV installers on the correct practices related to the installation of ‘on roof’ PV systems on pitched roofs covered with clay roof tiles. The importance of inspecting the correct conditions of the roof structure and covering before the installation of solar panels is highlighted, as well as the employment of mounting systems which respect the relevant standards and the design of the roof. Most importantly, the guidance insists on the need of avoiding any manipulation, cutting or grinding of roof tiles during the installation of PV systems. The adoption of the suggested best practices will ensure the properties of the roof structure (with regards, for example, to fire safety or waterproofing) and the respect of the manufacturer’s liability and the product’s guarantee.
