TBE & Solar Power Europe joint webinar on photovoltaic panels & clay roof tiles

On 26 January, in collaboration with Solar Power Europe, TBE organised an online internal workshop on opportunities and challenges between clay roof tiles and rooftop photovoltaic (PV) panels. With 66% of PV panels installed on roofs, the increased demand on the market impacts the ceramic roof tiles industry.

Following the introduction by Miroslaw Jaroszewicz, TBE Vice-President, Franz Kolnerberger, representative of TBE addressed in his presentation the existing technical solutions to connect solar panels on roofs and ensure their performance, as well as opportunities related to the normative regulation.

A presentation based on experimental data was given by Marco d’Orazio, Building Science Full Professor at UNIVPM.

Lastly, three representatives from the solar panels industry highlighted the issues pointed out above, required alterations of the tiles for the PV mounting system and the required stability of roofing material.

During the discussion with the 50 participants, the need for an effective collaboration between stakeholders was highlighted, as well as common challenges such as the importance of standards and certification, and installers training and skills.

Future development on that topic will be developed within the TBE Roofing Tiles PG.
